Rabid Read: Divergent by Veronica Roth

This is my ideal weekend. I lie on my bed whole day stoke and feeling all swoony as I turn countless pages of Veronica Roth's Divergent (which I got from my awesome friend Stella as a present, a million thanks to her), unable to stop myself. I am usually a slow reader, I spent about a week on The Hunger Games, a month on the whole Trilogy. But It's only been twenty freaking four hours and I'm halfway through it.

The plot

Set in a futuristic dystopia, Beatrice seeks to break free from her homogeneous society that divides people based on human traits; the five factions being, Abnegation (the Selfless), Erudite (the Intelligent), Candor (the Honest), Amity (the Peaceful), and Dauntless (the Brave). Born in an Abnegation Family, she doubts herself, admits on not being selfless enough and questions her belongingness to her faction origin. She undergoes the aptitude tests, which later reveal that she is something much different from the others, dangerous even. Scrambling for self identity, she leaves her faction and joins the faction of the Dauntless, where she falls for a young man, and discovers something much stronger than fear.

On being Hunger Games-like

I'm not gonna talk about which I prefer more. Cause honestly, and I mean it in the Candor-est way possible, I like love them both equally. I love that THG is moving on a slowly but surely pace. But I also love Divergent's fast paced and irresistible action packed scenes. In THG, it's mostly Katniss talking to herself, so that you understand only her character really well, in a more personal level. But in Divergent, you get to know more people, because Tris is often surrounded with a lot of different characters.

Also, everybody knows how much of a futuristic Dystopian fanatic I am. I can say that THG is set on a more realistic future world. When I was on my first few pages, I couldn't stop scoffing at the idea of the divided factions, not to mention the kind loyalty they each have for their own chosen one. I found it silly. At first, only at first. When I start venturing into more pages, I realize it could be possible - Amity, Dauntless, Abnegation, Erudite, and Candor happening in the future. So the feeling isn't like when I was reading THG, when it was instantly "OMG THIS FEELS LIKE IT COULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE". In Divergent, it took me a few more pages to connect the present world to the future world it presents in a realistic scope.

The ending

I'm not gonna talk about it yet. I'm a few chapters away from actually finishing it. So I'm just writing this part to let everybody know that though this seems impossible, I'd love to see some Tris-Eric romance go on. I'm so weird. But of course I'd still be rooting for Four

Film adaptation jitters

All I can say is, Shailene Woodley is absolutely perfect for Tris. I read about her being cast for the role, so I google and youtube her instantly, a few seconds on my search engine and I fall inlove with her. I love that they cast someone who's actually new in mainstream films this time. I mean, Jennifer Lawrence was perfect, but I feel like it was a safe choice. I mean, it would've given the production extra points if they cast someone actually new and was able to pull it off.

So Tris is the reason Woodley wasn't cast for Katniss when she auditioned. She would've been perfect for THG too, but I can't imagine Divergent with a different Tris.

As for Tobias/Four's character. I think it's time for Lucas Till to take on his first lead role. He's ripe and hot enough.

Bon Appetea!

It's been such a busy week for me. I've been doing a lot of job searching for our upcoming internship this summer. It's making my neophyte self quite anxious. But my inner goddess is somewhere in heaven jumping up and down with pompoms in both hands. I can't wait to get my hands on those advertising agency errands!

Today was a tiring sunbaked day. We had to walk a kilometer or two downtown to literally count billboards and posters for our Advertising class. It was so much fun doing a lot of strolling counting things up the sky like idiots lol. But my highlight of the day?

Tadaaa! After weeks of being milktea-deprived, I finally got to experience euphoric joy once again with the newest Milktea shop here in Iloilo, Bon Appetea. Their Wintermelon is just, pure heaven.

After enjoying the joy of Milktea, we did some more strolling and eating. Then we went over a tarpaulin printing shop to print our friend's (a Miss Iloilo Dinagyang Pageant Contestant) support tarpaulin, and guess what graced my presence? A poster on their glass door saying they're hiring a lay-out artist (preferrably female). And I was like what the fck I want it so badly I thought of skipping school for a while. The guys (their current layout artists) saw some of my works and they were like, asking me questions about my love for layouting.

I was this close to getting hired. I wanted a job badly cause I've been doing part time job hunting for 2PM's upcoming concert I so badly want to watch. But then reality struck on me. It struck so hard I wanted to cry right then and there. Where I currently live is an hour and a half ride away from the shop. And it's impossible for me to travel everyday when I have this thing called school. It's so depressing I wanna die right now.

But oh well, I had milktea today so who cares. And I still have two months to dream on about that 2PM concert. So help me God.

Revamping soon.

I'm a bit too busy to blog about anything right now. But I just can't contain the excitement. I recently won a domain giveaway hosted by Jen on her blog So-Glamorous. I will be relinking soon, and revamping this site too! I can't wait!

In the mean time, I'm announcing a very short hiatus. Gimme about 2-3 weeks to code all my stuff again. I'll definitely be back with a .info domain to blow your minds! Love you guys!

Happy 2013!

There's not much to post about - for now, at least. But here's a picture of me and my sister's awesome led lightboard wishing you guys a Happy 2013 before going out somewhere for the night!

We spent the eve out an open field everybody calls the NGC or the New Government Center, waiting for a countdown to a full fifteen minute fireworks display. And I must say, it was breathtaking.

It was our first time spending New Year's Eve outside, and it was so much fun just lying on the damp grass under the night sky, with food and umbrellas and live band - and booze, to top it all of. We did it picnic style, just like all the other people who decided to spend their eve there, too. Some even brought tents with them. How awesome, right? We may be spending next year's New Years Eve the same way, cause we had so much fun.

That, up there is the best photo I'd taken that night. Forgive the grainy quality I was using camera phone, as per usual. But I really love that photo I just had to post it here.

This was how the NGC looked like that night. Too many lights and fireworks and food and booze. I just enjoyed everything about that night. It was, by far the most memorable New Year's Eve we've spent here in Bacolod. I'm never gonna regret suggesting the idea muahaha.

Anyway, so this was how I spent New Year's Eve. I'd love to hear how you spent yours. Comment them on this post!
PS. As for the Winter Wonderland Giveaway, I would like to congratulate Kristen de Vera for winnning! And of course thank everyone who participated in my very first giveaway. There will be more soon, so I hope you stay tuned. As for now, I'm currently working on a new skin for the freshly dawned year. I'll be releasing it maybe mid-January. Thank you, for being a part of my 2012 everybody! I hope you have a blast this 2013. Please know that I love you all so dearly, despite the lack of tags and comments from me.
